How much should you tip when dining out?
Tipping is a debatable subject since there are no set standards for how much you can tip after services in a restaurant. There are several considerations that people make before tipping they include the kind of service offered, the quality of food served and the amount they have spent on the particular joint for food and drinks. Social factors come into play here because it depends also on how one was raised and their perception on tipping. Usually the basis of tipping is always based on how excellent the services were. Many people ask questions on the appropriate tip to leave at a restaurant for example if one should tip on the tax, the best amount to tip for drinks and what is considered as a bad tip.
Tip on tax- the restaurant pays the tax money to the government therefore it is no use tipping on the tax. At the end of the shift the total amounts collected that include tax, sales and tip are compiled and the tips are usually divided amongst the restaurant staff. Many people imagine the tip goes to the particular waiter that delivered the exemplary services but this is not usually the case.
Tip on drinks-in most drinking places a tip if 10 percent is acceptable this is because the bar tenders receive tips from other service attendants and end up sharing it. Bar tenders often do most of the work compared to the servers, waiters or waitresses. Servers just deliver the drinks while bar tenders mix them up for the customer so ideally it is the bar tender who should receive a bigger tip than the server. To be generous at least 15 to 20 percent is good enough for people who are really enjoying themselves and the services offered.
Bad tip?-what is usually termed as a bad tip? Many people often wonder the kind of tip to leave in case of terrible services. There is no amount that can be termed as a bad tip and this entirely depends on the decision of the customer. If you feel dissatisfied with the type of service offered then it is within your right to leave a bad tip. A bad tip sends an indirect message to the management to show that the services offered were not impressive to the customer. Instead of this you can also decide to talk to the manager and explain your concerns and usually the matter is addressed.
Conclusion
After a gratifying dining experience in a restaurant, one would consider tipping the server just to show appreciation for the services rendered. This serves as a motivator to the server and also shows satisfaction with the services. In the hotel industry there is no fixed amount that one can tip and it solely depends on the customer's decision. If the services offered were up to the expected standard, one may tip 25% but usually many people prefer to tip up to 15%.tipping also depends on the restaurant being visited, mostly customers tip big tips in big hotels and relatively smaller tips in smaller hotels.
